THE RASTA PORTRAITURES

These photographs are a body of work in development to historically document true Rastas, Rasta families, Rasta elders, and Rasta leaders. This is a sampling of a larger body of work. The full body will be unveiled at a later date.

The depth and breath of this project, is far more serious than I will elaborate on here. As the project unfolds, so will the details of the making of these works.

Debra connects with Dr. Jake Homiak of the Smithsionian in pursuit of photographing and documenting Rastas and Rasta elders. Dr. Homiak is the curator of Discovering Rastafari! currently exhibiting at the Smithsonian through 2010. Debra sought out his expertise to coordinate accurate documentation to marry with the photographs for an accurate documentation of a people. The project began last winter of 2008 and will take many years to complete. Debra wants the body of work to be a dignified, elegant an accurately documented of the Rasta peoples.
